Gain insight about the history of Ponchatoula and the surrounding area at the Collinswood School Museum. The museum offers free admission, a sunny outdoor garden, antique quilts and furnishings, early household and Native-American artifacts, a pictorial and recorded history of the Louisiana cypress industry, and more!

While visiting the Collinswood Museum, check out the statue entitled “The Conservationist.” This statue pays homage to our Native American ancestors. Native American culture played a very important role in the creation of our city. This sculpture was created by W. Binnings.

Next to the locomotive across the street, you will find called “The Lesson.” The sculpture depicts a farmer teaching his young children how to properly stem a strawberry. The young boy shown on the corner of the truck is Homer Chaney. The sculpture was created in Chaney’s honor. This sculpture was created by W. Binnings.

After visiting the Collinswood Museum, walk across the street to our historic locomotive. This locomotive was used by the Louisiana Cypress Lumber company in the early 1900s. The locomotive serves as a symbol of our past, paying homage to our history as a town built by the railroad.

A Quilt Trail is the exhibition of artistic interpretations (painted, mixed media, etc.) of quilt blocks outdoors on homes, businesses, sheds, fences, barns etc. The Ponchatoula Trail is completely located in the south of Tangipahoa Parish. Travel through strawberry fields to the Tangipahoa line on the west, through Ponchatoula and south to Manchac and the serene swamp landscape.
